Smarter Cuts, Not Tax Hikes

February 26, 2013

We reached an agreement to cut $2.1 trillion in government spending over 10 years, and we intend to keep our word. Should these cuts be implemented in a smarter way? Absolutely. But the President and his cabinet secretaries had a year and a half to think about that. They can’t just show up now at the last minute and expect the American people to bail them out of their own lack of responsibility. We can either secure those reductions more intelligently, or we can do it the President’s way with across-the board cuts. But one thing Americans simply will not accept is another tax increase to replace spending reductions we already agreed to.’

Senator Mitch McConnell made the following comments today regarding Kentuckian Jennifer Lawrence winning Oscar for Best Actress:

"Today, I join Kentuckians in congratulating Jennifer Lawrence on winning the Academy Award for Best Actress. Jennifer is a Louisville native, and I’m sure that Kentuckians were rooting for her the most of all last night. At 22 years old, she is only the third Kentuckian to win an Oscar for acting. On behalf of the Commonwealth, I want to wish her all the best, and say we are looking forward to Jennifer Lawrence having a long and successful career."

LOUISVILLE, KY – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell today congratulated Ford Motor Company on the 100th anniversary of manufacturing operations in Louisville, Kentucky.

“I congratulate the Ford Motor Company for its 100th anniversary of manufacturing in the City of Louisville and the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Ford’s Louisville operations have produced famous road-worthy icons from the Model T to the Ford Fairlane, Bronco, F-Series truck and the Ford Escape. Its 8,500 employees are some of the hardest working men and women in the state, producing more than 650,000 vehicles annually. Louisville and Ford have proved to be great partners in automotive progress, and I look forward to the next 100 successful years of Ford Motor Company in Kentucky.”
