Internships

I am honored to welcome North Dakota students to join my Senate offices in Washington, D.C., Bismarck, and Fargo to take part in our internship program. The program provides students the opportunity to learn more about the federal government, legislative process, and the issues impacting our state and country.

Duties

Interns can expect to work closely with staff members on a variety of projects, including communication, legislative, constituent, and administrative work. Interns frequently assist with researching issues and tracking legislation as well as helping constituents and, in Washington, serving as guides on Capitol tours. Interns working in Washington also have the chance to attend committee hearings and other Congressional meetings and events, while state interns will attend public events with industry leaders, constituent groups and state and local officials.

Eligibility

Applicants must have completed at least one year of study in an institution of higher education. North Dakota residents and/or students studying at a North Dakota college or university receive priority in the selection process.

Dates and Hours

Senator Hoeven offers three intern sessions per year. The spring session runs from January through May; the summer session runs from June through August; and the fall session runs from September to December.

Fulltime positions are available in the Washington, D.C. office, and part-time positions are available in the Bismarck and Fargo offices.

Course Credit

Students are encouraged to seek course credit for their internship, and our office will work with students and their school to meet requirements needed to receive credit.

Compensation

Interns receive a stipend.
