Vitter Recognizes National Veterans Small Business Week

U.S. Senator David Vitter (R-La.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship (SBC), today released the following statement recognizing National Veterans Small Business Week, which is this week, Monday, October 31st through Friday, November 4, 2016. In September, Vitter and SBC Ranking Member Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) led ten other Senators in introducing a resolution honoring America’s veteran small business owners and their contributions to the America economy.

“We are indebted to our veterans’ brave sacrifices and service, and when they come back home, it is our responsibility to support them in all aspects. That includes our veteran entrepreneurs who start and grow small businesses,” said Vitter. “As we approach Veterans Day, I am honored to recognize and honor our brave men and women in uniform and thank them for their service and commitment to our country, economy, and communities as we continue to support them in their entrepreneurial pursuits.”

National Veterans Small Business Week honors the entrepreneurial pursuits of America’s more than 2,500,000 veteran-owned small businesses, which employ nearly 6,000,000 individuals and make up nearly 10 percent of all businesses in the United States.

Joining Chairman Vitter and Ranking Member Shaheen in introducing the resolution in support of National Veterans Small Business Week were Senators Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), Christopher Coons (D-Del.), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Gary Peters (D-Mich.). As the Senate Small Business Committee Chairman, Vitter, along with Ranking Member Shaheen, has tirelessly advocated for veteran small business owners, including passing the Veterans Small Business Ownership Act of 2015 (S.1866) and the Veterans Entrepreneurship Act (S.957) out of the committee.
