Washington, DC – Today, the House voted on final passage for the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). With a tradition of strong bipartisan support, this annual legislation funds our military, protects the homeland, and supports our troops. Following this vote, Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) released the following statement:

“It is critically important that we fund our military and support the men and women who protect us here at home.  The FY 2017 NDAA passed the House with strong support, continuing a 55 year tradition of bipartisan work on behalf of our troops.

“Included in the NDAA budget is language from the bicameral 'Countering Disinformation and Propaganda Act' - legislation I developed with Congressman Ted Lieu (CA) to help America’s allies counter government propaganda from nations like Russia, China, and others.  This legislation will streamline our counter-propaganda efforts by creating a new Global Engagement Center, and will reaffirm our commitment to empowering our allies against foreign manipulation.

“Supporting our troops is paramount to our national security, but we must also be sure to keep our promises to those that made sacrifices to serve and assist the United States military overseas.  Section 1214 of the NDAA extends the Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) program for four years and permits 1500 additional visas.  These Afghan men and women who would be eligible for these visas risked their lives, and the safety of their families, to serve and help the United States. We cannot leave them behind, and we cannot go back on our word. Senator John McCain (AZ), Congressman Earl Blumenauer (OR), and I have been very outspoken on the importance of sustaining the SIV program, and I'm glad to see these provisions included in the final NDAA package.”
