Donnelly Statement on Announcement that Purdue and Sandia Labs Will Form Strategic Alliance

Washington, DC U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly released the statement below following today’s announcement that Purdue University and Sandia National Laboratory will form a strategic alliance.

Donnelly said, “Purdue University and Sandia National Laboratories’ new strategic alliance is a significant development that will benefit Purdue and our national security.  Purdue is home to some of the best and brightest students and faculty in the country who are leading the way nationally and internationally in research and innovation. As one of the three main labs of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), Sandia is developing the science, engineering, and technology to address some of the most complex security challenges we face today. Their partnership with Purdue is an excellent fit that will open new research and collaboration opportunities for Purdue students and faculty and ensure that Sandia has access to top talent developed in Indiana. I will continue to work as the Ranking Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee’s Strategic Forces Subcommittee to ensure our NNSA labs develop partnerships like this in Indiana and across the country to leverage the incredible talent found in our colleges and universities.”

During the five-year alliance, Purdue and Sandia will: work collaboratively on research; support exchange opportunities for Purdue faculty and students and Sandia staff; and support increased faculty research partnership. Purdue is among a small group of research universities entering into a strategic alliance with Sandia.
