Request a Flag

I am pleased to assist constituents with their requests for American flags flown over the Capitol building. These flags can be dedicated to any person, organization or event.

Flags can also be flown on any specifically requested date, including weekends and holidays. Each flag is individually boxed and includes a certificate of dedication.

There are some nominal fees associated with flying a flag over the Capitol, and the price varies according to the size and material of the flag you request. This cost will be passed on to you.

Once your request is received, my staff will contact you to verify your request and give you necessary payment information. Please note that all flag requests are processed by the Architect of the Capitol and generally take 2-3 months to process. This timeframe cannot be expedited by our office.

Care of the Flag

Most outdoor flags can be washed in mild detergent and thoroughly rinsed. Indoor and parade flags should be dry-cleaned. Damaged flags can be repaired and utilized as long as the overall dimensions are not noticeably altered. American Legion Posts and local governments often have facilities to dispose of unserviceable flags. Store your flag in a clean, well ventilated area.
