Social Security and Medicare serve as the backbone of our commitment to allowing our nation’s seniors to retire with dignity.

For more than 75 years, Social Security has protected our nation’s seniors and provided an economic lifeline for millions of hard-working Americans. Social Security provides benefits to more than 140,000 people in Massachusetts’ Sixth Congressional District. Many Americans, like my parents, have for years paid into the Social Security trust fund with the understanding that they were paying for and securing their well-being in retirement. I owe it to my parents and future generations of Americans to strengthen this important program and make it sustainable in the long-term.

Medicare has provided healthcare coverage for older Americans and disabled persons for 50 years. I oppose efforts to cut benefits for current beneficiaries or dismantle Medicare by turning it into a voucher program. I am committed to working with Republicans and Democrats to ensure Medicare is sustainable for all Americans now and in the future.
