Blunt Thanks our Nation's Veterans

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) today released the following video marking Veterans Day:

Full Text:

“Missouri’s home to nearly 500,000 veterans, all of whom have been willing to put their lives on the line to secure our freedom and sustain the principles that make us a model democracy in the world. America is an extraordinary country because of these men and women and what they’ve done to make it so.

Today, on Veterans Day, I hope you’ll join me in taking time to reflect on the contributions all our nation’s heroes, our veterans, our active duty service members, and military families have made, and continue to make, on our behalf. It’s up to us to honor their sacrifice by keeping the promises we’ve made, ensuring they have access to the care and benefits they’ve earned, and expanding opportunities for all our veterans and service members.

That’s why I’ve been proud to back bills that encourage employers to hire more veterans, provide more health care treatment choices, and to improve mental health and suicide prevention. If a veteran is thinking of doing harm to themselves or anybody else, no waiting list is acceptable.

Earlier this year, I was honored to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Veterans of Foreign Wars and I’m not done yet. I can’t think of any recognition I’ve received that made me more humbled or touched than being the only elected official to ever get this award.

Advocating for our veterans in the Senate is one of the most rewarding parts of my job and I’ll continue working to make sure Congress meets its responsibilities toward all those who have served. And so to all our veterans, all our current service members, to their families, thank you for everything you do, and thank you for everything you’ve done, to keep our country safe.”
