On #AmericanEducationWeek, I want to thank all of the teachers in Maryland and around the country who are making a difference in the lives of our students. I especially want to recognize teachers who are committed to environmental education and who are helping to inspire the next generation of environmental stewards. I was proud to author a provision in the new K-12 education bill that will make new grantmaking opportunities available to teachers and community organizations that want to create innovative outdoor learning experiences for their students.

This weekend, I joined Boy Scout Troop #497 – along with Scout Master Adam Spence – for the dedication ceremony of the Baltimore County Operation Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom Memorial. The memorial recognizes the service and sacrifice of Baltimore County veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and memorializes those who gave their lives.

Great news for the Green & Healthy Homes Initiative, a Baltimore-based nonprofit that just received a grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service to help reduce childhood lead poisoning and build healthier homes.

Thank you, Montgomery County Recreation Director Gabriel Albornoz and Recreation Specialist Kimberly Bryant, for giving me a tour of the newly renovated Ross J. Boddy Community Center. It’s a fantastic facility that offers a wide range of recreational opportunities for residents in Sandy Spring and the surrounding area.

The Baltimore County Department of Aging put on a great Seniors Expo yesterday at the Timonium Fairgrounds. Really enjoyed meeting with folks throughout the day.
