Chairman

Welcome and thank you for visiting the official website of the United States Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.

America’s veterans fought to protect our freedoms and ensure our way of life, and the top priority of this Senate committee is to make sure America takes care of the veterans who have dedicated their lives to serving our country.

As chairman, I will be dedicated to ensuring the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs rises to the challenge of implementing the reforms set forth in the Veterans’ Access, Choice and Accountability Act of 2014, which was signed into law on August 7, 2014. We passed this law to address systemic problems of long wait times and poor-quality care for veterans at VA facilities across the country. There is no greater calling for us in Congress than to bring value back to the VA and our veterans. I look forward to leading the charge in the Senate to fix the VA’s problems and to help instill a system of success and accountability for the future.

This website is meant to be a useful resource for critical news and information for our nation’s veterans, their families, caregivers and physicians and all those who care about veterans’ issues. Your concerns, struggles and stories will assist our committee as we work to ensure that the needs of veterans are adequately and timely met so that we can honor the promises our government has made to our veterans. Please use the “Contact Us” section to share them with me.

Thank you again for your interest in our site. Should you need additional information or assistance, please contact (202) 224-9126

About Chairman Isakson

Johnny Isakson was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004, after serving three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. A veteran himself, Isakson served in the Georgia Air National Guard from 1966-1972. He has been a member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee since he joined the Senate in 2005. Isakson’s home state of Georgia includes more than a dozen military installations representing each branch of the military, as well as more than 750,000 veterans.

Isakson played a crucial role in the passage of the VA reform bill, the Veterans’ Access, Choice and Accountability Act of 2014. Isakson has long been focused on improving the quality and timeliness of care at U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs healthcare facilities across the country, and he helped to uncover signs of neglect and mismanagement at the Atlanta VA Medical Center after holding a Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee field hearing there in August 2013.

Isakson is a businessman who has built a respected record of public service. In addition to his service in Congress, he served 17 years in the Georgia legislature and two years as chairman of the Georgia Board of Education. As a business leader, Johnny served as president of Northside Realty for 20 years, as it grew to become the largest independent residential real estate brokerage company in the Southeast and one of the largest in America.

Johnny is the only Republican member to chair two committees in the 114th Congress: the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs and the Senate Select Committee on Ethics.

He is also a member of the Senate Committee on Finance, the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, as well as the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.

Johnny and his wife, Dianne, have been married since 1968. They have three grown children and nine grandchildren.
