High school students in Texas’ 11th Congressional District to participate in this year’s Congressional Art Competition. The deadline to enter is Thursday, March 31, 2016.
Since 1982, hundreds of thousands of high school students from around the country have participated in the Congressional Art Competition. One winning entry from each congressional district will be displayed in the tunnel connecting the U.S. Capitol and the Cannon House Office Building.
The winning student and a parent or guardian will receive airfare and accommodations in Washington to attend the unveiling ceremony in June.
Competition guidelines should be followed closely to ensure each piece of art submitted will be suitable for hanging. Please note that the maximum size for entries this year is 28 inches by 28 inches by 4 inches. Entries should not be framed, just matted. The winning entry will be framed before being shipped to Washington.
Students interested in entering the art competition should contact their school’s art teacher or principal for more information on the competition and delivering their artwork for judging. All artwork must be received by one of Congressman Conaway’s regional offices by Thursday, March 31st, to be eligible. There will be a reception at the Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas on April 9th, 2016, where all the entries will be displayed and the winner of the competition will be announced.
