Joint Economic Committee Ranking Member Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-N.Y.) became the top Democrat on the committee in January 2015. Previously, she had served as committee chair from 2009-2011.Under her leadership, the JEC closely monitored the ongoing recession and tracked the economy's rebound. The committee held close to 50 hearings and issued dozens of reports with an emphasis on creating jobs and reducing unemployment. Maloney took particular interest in how the economy affected women. As ranking member, she has hailed the successful efforts of President Obama, the Federal Reserve and Congress to revive the economy and create conditions for job growth. In her role as chair and ranking member, Maloney has held hearings and produced reports on the role of women and minorities in the economy, to inform policy decisions and unleash the full economic potential of all Americans.
