I am pleased to announce that my office is participating in the 2016 Congressional App Challenge. The Congressional App Challenge is a competition aimed at encouraging U.S. high school students to learn how to code by creating their own applications. The Challenge is intended to highlight the value of computer science and STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
Established by Members of the U.S. House of Representatives in 2013, this nationwide effort allows students to compete against their peers by creating and an application or “app,” for mobile, tablet, or computer devices. The Challenge is designed to promote innovation and engagement in coding and computer science.
The Congressional App Challenge is open to high school students in the 42nd Congressional District of California. Students entering the competition must submit their app to Challenge.gov before the end of the Competition Submission Period at 9:00 A.M. Pacific Daylight Time on NOVEMBER 2ND, 2016.
Submissions will be judged on the following criteria: quality of the idea, including creativity and originality; implementation of the idea, including user experience and design; and demonstrated excellence of coding and programming skills.
The winner from the 42nd Congressional District, chosen by a panel of expert judges, will be featured on www.StudentAppChallenge.us, and the winning app will also be on display in the U.S. Capitol, honoring the winners from across the country.
