U.S. Representatives Pat Tiberi (R-12), Steve Stivers (R-15), and Joyce Beatty (D-03) today applaud Speaker John Boehner’s appointment of Ohio Health President and CEO David Blom to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Commission on Care to improve access to care to our nation’s veterans.

“David’s nearly 30 years of experience in hospital administration at a large integrated health system like OhioHealth and his personal knowledge of the interaction between the VA Health Administration and the private healthcare system uniquely qualifies him to serve on the Commission,” Rep. Tiberi said. “Providing premier quality health care to our nation’s veterans and their families is a shared goal and we look forward to following David’s work and the work of the Commission.”

“Dave’s commitment to our nation’s veterans and improving their care makes him the perfect choice to the VA’s commission on care,” said Rep. Stivers.

“David’s exemplary credentials and outstanding leadership will be a pivotal asset for the VA Commission on Care,” said Rep. Beatty. “I look forward to continuing to work with a trusted partner and friend in finding solutions to the critical challenges facing our nation’s veterans and their access to care.”

Blom has served as the president of OhioHealth since 1999 and was named the Chief Executive Officer of the healthcare provider in 2002. His nearly 30 years of service at OhioHealth includes a period of time when OhioHealth served as an overflow facility for veterans needing care in Central Ohio. Under his leadership OhioHealth has been named one of the Ten Best Healthcare Systems in America for the past 5 years by Truven, and has been names a Fortune Top 100 places to work for eight years in a row (2007-2014).

The VA Commission on Care was created by the Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act that was signed into law on August 7, 2014.  The Commission is composed of 15 members who are tasked with completing a comprehensive assessment of veterans’ ability to access health care through the VA and to submit recommendations to improve access.
