Vitter, Shaheen introduce Senate Resolution recognizing May 1-7, 2016 as 53rd annual National Small Business Week

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), Chairman of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee (SBC), and U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), SBC Ranking Member, introduced a Senate Resolution recognizing May 1 through May 7, 2016 as “National Small Business Week.”

“During National Small Business Week, we join together to celebrate the huge successes and achievements of America’s small businesses. Starting and running a small business requires courage, dedication, and vision, and as our entrepreneurs have pursued the American Dream, they’ve created thousands upon thousands of jobs and propelled economic growth,” said Senator Vitter. “It’s no secret that small businesses, as the driving force of our economy, have led the way in our nation’s innovation and technology development, and I will continue working with my colleagues on the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee to help entrepreneurs grow their businesses and achieve success.”

“National Small Business Week is a great opportunity to highlight the contributions of the millions of small businesses across the country while renewing our support of these critical drivers of our economy,” said Senator Shaheen. “As the lead Democrat on the Small Business Committee, helping these businesses grow has always been a top priority of mine and I’ll continue to do everything I can to support their growth and success.”

Cosponsors of the resolution include Senators Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), Gary Peters (D-Mich.), Jim Risch (R-Idaho), Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.), Tim Scott (R-S.C.), Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.).

“National Small Business Week” has been declared by every President since 1963. As Chairman of the Senate Small Business Committee, Vitter is committed to advocating for America’s small businesses, and is working to make sure that the voices and concerns of small business owners across the country are heard in Washington.
