This Friday, we were able to bring some of our work on Capitol Hill to Ohio's 2nd District, hosting a Congressional Field Hearing, Best Practices in Veterans Hiring. Regular hearings like this are part of my job responsibilities as the subcommittee chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Economic Opportunity Subcommittee.

I was honored to host my colleagues, including Reps Chabot, Johnson, Messer, and Takano, to hear from leading employers in Ohio and the nation. Representatives from Total Quality Logistics, Cintas, HELP Heating and Air Conditioning, Tristate Veterans Community Alliance, Recruit Military, GE Aviation, and the Cincinnati Police Department shared their insights into successfully hiring and retaining veterans for long-term careers.

Following the hearing, we brought together nearly 50 employers and many local veterans in a Job Fair, putting words into action to get more veterans working. A big thank you to all who attended! There is always more to do, and I look forward to taking what we learned at this hearing back to Congress as we work to better serve our veterans.

Be sure to check out the last photo - we took a moment to recognize and award some long overdue medals to local WWII veteran, Harry Freyer. Thank you for your service!

Today's Congressional field hearing in Cincinnati is underway! My fellow congressmen and I will hear from regional employers and veterans groups who exhibit best practices in veteran hiring.
