Congress includes help for Everglades, beaches in major bill

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Congress is including millions to help with Everglades restoration in a wide-ranging water bill being sent to President Barack Obama. Congress approved the bill early Saturday morning.

Nelson again fights offshore oil effort

Florida’s environment and economy dodged yet another bullet from the oil industry last week, thanks to the tireless efforts of Sen. Bill Nelson. Nelson’s impassioned pleas on the Senate floor and in private meetings with Democratic senators helped defeat a bill designed to give neighboring states more incentives to allow offshore drilling.

Sen. Bill Nelson calls for federal investigation into Florida sale of DMV information

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has the sold personal information of 15 million residents to private companies for more than $150 million over the last two years. U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson has called the practice into question and has asked for a federal investigation into whether the practice violates the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act.
