Assessing the Coast Guard’s Increasing Duties: A focus on drug and migrant interdiction
U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), chairman of the Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries, and Coast Guard, will convene a subcommittee hearing titled “Assessing the Coast Guard’s Increasing Duties: A focus on drug and migrant interdiction” on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at 2:00 p.m.
The commandant of the Coast Guard, Admiral Paul Zukunft, will testify on the Coast Guard’s statutory missions including the current interdiction efforts that often intersect with organized transnational smugglers. Combatting transnational criminal networks and enforcing U.S. maritime border security are two of the Coast Guard’s top priorities over the next decade.
