Happy 100th Birthday National Park Service!

August 25, 2016
  • Our National Park system has been called our nation's "crown jewel," our "national treasure" and "America's best idea." The parks have awed and inspired, informed, and hosted outdoor adventures for generations of Americans.

Today, the National Park Service turns 100, and I hope you'll join me in wishing it a happy birthday!

As part of the celebration, I'm inviting you to share photos of your experiences in New Mexico's National Parks.

New Mexico is known for our spectacular scenery, fascinating history and unique cultural heritage. Our state is home to 18 National Park sites that draw tourists from around the world, create jobs and offer endless opportunities to learn and explore.

    Carlsbad Caverns

From the castle-like stalactites and stalagmites of Carlsbad Caverns,

    White Sands

to the pristine, snow white sands of White Sands National Monument,

    Chaco Culture National Historical Park

the massive, complex buildings of ancestral Pueblo people at Chaco Culture National Historical Park,

    Bandelier

the centuries-old cliff dwellings at Bandelier and Gila Cliff Dwellings national monuments,

    Valles Caldera

and the abundant hunting and fishing opportunities at our newest National Preserve, the Valles Caldera, and many others.

Share photos of your favorite memories in New Mexico's National Parks — I'll feature some of them on my website and social media.

The National Park system's birthday isn't just a reflection on the past 100 years, it's an opportunity to cheer on a new century of adventures.

Our National Parks will be fee free today through Sunday. So you can #FindYourPark, get outside and join in the party.

    Happy birthday National Park Service!
