Vice Chairwoman Mikulski Statement on Republican Conference Agreement

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.), Vice Chairwoman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement in response to the Republican conference agreement for the fiscal year 2017 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill and Zika virus supplemental funding:

“I will not support the Republican Zika-Military Construction-VA conference report that limits needed birth control services for women in the United States and Puerto Rico, and includes a troubling pesticides policy rider that endangers clean water protections.

“Zika is an urgent public health emergency.  Instead of taking the approach the Senate did in passing the Military Construction-VA bill, with the Blunt-Murray emergency Zika funding agreement, by a vote of 89-8, House and Senate Republicans intend to file a cynical, partisan conference report that includes poison pill riders, offsets and underfunds our veterans by $500 million.  I will oppose it.”
