Washington, April 21, 2016 - This week, Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-14) voted in favor of several bills to strengthen oversight of and bring more accountability to the IRS. Passage of these bills comes on the heels of Tax Day, which was April 18.

“Hard-working taxpayers expect and deserve to have federal agencies provide great customer service and use tax dollars wisely,” said Rep. Graves. “After the political targeting scandal and the exposure of the agency’s culture of wasteful spending, I was glad to support massive cuts to the IRS budget. These measures will bring even more accountability and oversight to the IRS.”   

The IRS accountability and oversight bills the House passed this week include:

• The IRS Oversight While Eliminating Spending Act, which eliminates an existing IRS slush fund and returns control of the fees collected by the IRS to Congress;
  
• The No Hires for the Delinquent IRS Act, which prohibits the IRS from hiring new employees until the Treasury Secretary verifies that no employees are delinquent on their taxes;
  
• The Ensuring Integrity in the IRS Workforce Act, which prohibits the IRS from rehiring employees who were fired for misconduct;
  
• And legislation to impose a ban on employee bonuses at the IRS until the Treasury Secretary creates and implements a customer service plan.
  

Each of these bills passed the House of Representatives.
