Legislative Updates: 114th Congress
Rep. Deutch Cosponsors Big Cat Public Safety Act
As a member of the Congressional Animal Protection Caucus, Congressman Deutch (FL-21) has signed on as a cosponsor of the Big Cat Public Safety Act.
This legislation prohibits private ownership of big cats such as lions and tigers, except at certain accredited zoos, wildlife sanctuaries, and educational and research institutions. Current big cat owners are required to register their cats with the Department of Agriculture. The bill also outlaws big cat breeding outside of these accredited institutions. H.R. 3546 will ensure that these animals are treated properly and humanely, while not posing a threat to the safety of residential communities. A copy of H.R. 3546 is available here. |
