Legislative Updates: 114th Congress
Rep. Deutch Cosponsors Bill Advancing Ten Mile Creek Water Restoration Project
Congressman Ted Deutch (FL-21) signed on as a cosponsor of H.R. 231, to deauthorize the Ten Mile Creek Water Preserve Area Critical Restoration Project. This legislation amends the Water Resources Development Act of 1996 to transfer the Ten Mile Creek project from the Federal government to the South Florida Water Management District.
The Ten Mile Creek Water Preserve Area provides critical storage and treatment of storm water, which eventually flows to the St. Lucie River and Estuary. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the South Florida Water Management District have faced a gridlock over management of the Ten Mile Creek Reservoir, stalling the project’s progress since 2009. This legislation would transfer the full authority over the project to the state’s control, finally allowing the project to continue. A copy of H.R. 231 is available here. |
