Legislative Updates: 114th Congress
Rep. Deutch Cosponsors Breast Cancer Awareness Commemorative Coin Act
Congressman Deutch (FL-21) joined a bipartisan coalition in cosponsoring the Breast Cancer Awareness Commemorative Coin Act (H.R. 2722), which recently passed in the U.S. House of Representatives. This legislation supports research and awareness for this disease with a new $1 silver minted coin, proceeds of which will benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
According to the American Cancer Society, over 2.5 million women in the United States are living with breast cancer today. As a member of the House Cancer Caucus, Congressman Deutch has consistently worked to increase funding for cancer research. He has voted to increase the allocation of research funds for the National Institutes of Health, including the National Cancer Institute, and supported expanding prevention and early detection programs at the Centers for Disease Control. This bill would expand these funds with additional private sector support, which can lead to more targeted prevention, improved treatments, and maybe even a cure.
