WASHINGTON - Today, Small Business Committee Chairman Steve Chabot (R-OH) issued the following statement in response to the Administration's decision to dramatically tighten federal ozone standards:

"With this rule, the EPA is moving forward on the most costly, most damaging regulation ever imposed on American families – and just as we are seeing a resurgence in American manufacturing.

It could cost the American economy $140 billion and 1.4 million jobs per year. In my home state of Ohio, it could mean 22,819 fewer jobs annually. And these are jobs lost in communities that can least afford it.

Manufacturers have led the way in reducing ozone levels. They are down 33 percent since 1980, and 20 percent in the last decade, but now the EPA is moving the goal posts on them to appease the extreme left.

There is already bipartisan opposition to the EPA’s actions, and Republicans will continue to defend American workers from this disastrous rule.”
