Congressman Filemon Vela was born in Harlingen and raised in Brownsville, Texas. He graduated from Georgetown University and went on to receive a J.D. from The ...University of Texas School of Law.

Over the past 20 years, Congressman Vela has practiced law and been heavily involved in public service and advocacy. As a Member of Congress, he currently serves on the House Committee on Agriculture, as well as the House Committee on Homeland Security.

He is committed to carrying on his family’s legacy of serving South Texas.
