I am honored and ready to serve the American people as the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee Chairman in the 115th Congress! http://bit.ly/2j20Fju
Americans spoke louder than ever to say: Washington needs to change the way it does business. I agree, especially when it comes at the expense of our job creators. The ever growing cost of compliance is hurting small businesses and manufacturers as over-burdensome regulations unnecessarily constrain job creators, often limiting growth opportunities. We should be doing everything in our power to relieve this tension.
That is why I am pleased the House passed H.R. 26, the REIN...S Act, last night. This measure would enhance oversight over the current burdensome regulatory process by requiring an up-or-down vote from Congress on any major rule by a Federal agency, before it can be enforced. As a cosponsor of the REINS Act, I was proud to vote for a bill that will curb executive overreach, cut down on unneeded government bureaucracy, and hold government agencies accountable for the regulations they impose on Americans.

"For, more than just a day, Christmas is a state of mind. It is found throughout the year whenever faith overcomes doubt, hope conquers despair, and love triumphs over hate. It is present when men of any creed bring love and understanding to the hearts of their fellow man." - Ronald Reagan.
Merry Christmas to you and your family this Christmas Day!
Peace on earth, good will towards men.
It is a phrase often used, but do we really understand what it means? To many of us, it is the message we inscribe in our holiday cards to friends and loved ones. The origin of this verse however, can be found not in the offices of Hallmark, but instead in the story of the birth of Christ.
The Christmas Miracle began when the angel Gabriel delivered to Mary the joyous news that a child would be born, and this child would be named Jesus. ...Though his life began in a simple manger in a stable, the Messiah would go on to change the world. Nearby, while shepherds tended their flocks in the night, an angel appeared. To them the angel said, โDo not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joyโฆ. Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace, good will towards men.โ
It is this good will that we see around us every day. In the First District, many organizations are changing lives in our community by providing assistance in the form of food, clothing, child care, job training, and much more. Along with other Fredericksburg residents, I personally had the honor of laying handmade wreaths on veteransโ graves to pay tribute to their service. During the Christmas season, it is important to remember the men and women of our armed forces who will not be home with their families, but instead, are working tirelessly to achieve peace on this earth. Though at times, especially now, we see both a nation and a world divided, we must always recognize the good will that surrounds us.
As another year closes, I come to you with good news that will cause great joy. A message of hope for the future: that our best and brightest days are ahead! Come let us adore Him on this Christmas Day, remembering what truly brings us all together: the joy brought by the birth of Christ and a renewed sense of hope. To our troops overseas, our men and women in uniform, and to you and your family, I wish you all a Merry Christmas!
This is such a fantastic reminder that many of our service members will be spending this holiday season overseas and won't be home for Christmas.
It brings me a lot of pride and joy to join Republicans and Democrats serving on the House Armed Services Committee in wishing our men and women in uniform and their families a very Merry Christmas and a Blessed and Happy New Year--
Thank you so much for your service!
To our men and women in uniform away from home this holiday season - Happy Holidays from the HASC!
It was a privilege to lay wreaths in Fredericksburg on Saturday to honor our fallen heroes. #WreathsAcrossAmerica #SayTheirNames

Carl von Clausewitz said that โcourage, above all things, is the first quality of a warrior.โ Major Jamie Glinesโmy Marine fellowโhas been proof positive of that principle. It takes courage to lead, and Jamie is a true servant leader. Heโs been an advocate for Members of the Armed Forces and Veterans across the First District, and heโs been a friend and a mentor to my staff here in D.C. Thank you for your service, Jamie. #SemperFi
"December 7, 1941 - A date which will live in infamy." Today is the 75th anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor. This day we keep in our hearts the 2,400 Americans who died fighting to protect our freedoms. We honor their dedication and remember their sacrifice. #Pearlharbor75

Fidel Castro was a dictator who promised progress while impoverishing and imprisoning his own people. His death does not mean democracy for Cuba, but it does represent progress for the political activists, religious leaders, and others who have sacrificed so much in the struggle against tyranny. It's more important than ever for Congress and the new Administration to stand against oppression and support the men and women working for a free Cuba.

- Rep. Whitman, you are doing a great job so far! I wanted to let you... know that my family is very concerned with protecting our kids from inappropriate material, and have actively used streaming filtering services that are available to us for showing movies to our kids. Hollywood seems to want to limit our choices, and dictate how we show movies to our kids at home. Could you please support amending the Family Movie Act, so that it clarifies that the filtering of streamed movies is included? See More
- As a father and a person of faith, I am extremely concerned that we ...are losing the ability to keep inappropriate content out of our homes away from our kids. Our family has been avid users of VidAngels streaming service but are saddened to hear they are in a court battle to keep the rights of consumers to filter hollywood content. The courts previously rulled in favor of a families right to filter content so this will hopefully be overturned. If there is anything you can help this effort I would really appreciate it!
