Today, Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-FL) made the following statement regarding the release of Alan Gross, an American aid worker imprisoned in Cuba since 2009 for working to expand internet access for the Cuban people:

“After spending five long years in a Cuban prison, Alan Gross is now free to return home to his family.  Both he and his family have paid an enormous personal price, and I am pleased that his unjust detainment has finally come to an end.  I would like to commend my colleagues in Congress and all those who have fought tirelessly for Mr. Gross’ release in making today possible.”

Congressman Alcee L. Hastings serves as Senior Member of the House Rules Committee, Ranking Democratic Member of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, and Co-Chairman of the Florida Delegation.
