Tax Reform

It is clear that our current tax code is in dire need of a massive overhaul. Congress needs to pass tax reform that is simple, lowers tax rates for all Americans, and prevents evasion and unfair manipulation. We can amend our tax code so that it results in lower rates, and encourages investments, savings, and job creation.

Actions

  • I introduced the Tax Code Termination Act (H.R. 27), which would abolish the Internal Revenue Code by December 31, 2019, and require Congress to approve a new federal tax system by July of the same year. This legislation would allow us, as a nation, to collectively decide what the new tax system should look like. Whichever tax system is adopted, I am certain that if Congress is forced to address the issue we can create a tax code that is simpler, fairer, and better for our economy than the one we are forced to comply with today.” This legislation has previously passed the House of Representatives twice, first in 1998 and then in 2000.

  • I am a cosponsor of the Death Tax Repeal Act (H.R. 1105), which would repeal this burdensome tax on families. H.R. 1105 passed the House by a vote of 240-179.

  • I introduced the Permanent Internet Tax Freedom Act (PITFA), H.R. 235. Access to the Internet is a critical gateway to jobs, education, healthcare, and entrepreneurial opportunities. PITFA keeps the Internet affordable and drives innovation by banning access taxes permanently. If the moratorium is not renewed or made permanent, the potential tax burden on Americans would be substantial.PITFA passed the House by voice vote.

  • I am a member of the Death Tax Caucus and Zero Capital Gains Tax Caucus.
