Congressional Press Accreditation Application Process

Congressional Press accreditation for magazines, newsletters, non-daily newspapers, and online publications are handled through the Periodical Press Gallery. The Executive Committee of Periodical Correspondents decides which publications qualify for press credentials.

For new publications, the application process can be lengthy with the potential for taking six months to a year to complete, and some applications have taken even longer. Approval is not guaranteed at the end of the process. Please see the rules and regulations to review the qualifications.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

The Periodical Press Gallery is unique in that the administrative duty of credentialing our correspondents rotates between the House and Senate offices. We rotate this responsibility every four years. The Senate Periodical Press Gallery is currently in charge of administering credentials.
