As the daughter of a World War II veteran, a senior member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, and a senior member of both the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense and the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, Senator Murray is committed to making sure our country fulfills its promise to care for our veterans long after they return home from duty. She is also fighting for resources to keep our military strong and our nation secure.
Throughout her career, Senator Murray has been a tireless advocate for veterans and the military, and is focused on making sure our country is equipped to provide for veterans from all eras who have a diverse array of needs, including women, the fastest-growing population of veterans. She wants to ensure the VA’s resources and policies reflect the needs of a modern military. One part of that is lifting the decades-old ban on providing fertility services, including IVF, to veterans injured while serving our country.
Senator Murray has also fought for increased benefits, housing assistance, new veterans clinics throughout Washington state, and more accountability from the VA. She believes the country should do more to increase education opportunities, expand employment assistance, address the mental and physical trauma of military service, and reduce wait times for veterans with pending claims or appeals. Senator Murray continues to push her colleagues and the VA to ensure no veteran is left behind, and is working to protect homeless services for all veterans.
Growing up in a military household showed Senator Murray firsthand the sacrifice that military service demands, and she is committed to delivering the care and respect our veterans and servicemembers deserve. It’s why working for veterans and our military remains one of Senator Murray’s top priorities in the U.S. Senate.
