Constitution
Constitution
Through our Constitution, our Founding Fathers formed a government in order to secure and protect the freedoms we cherish as Americans. Our rights and liberties come from our Creator, and, to protect them, the Constitution established clear limits on the power of government.
Unfortunately, too many ignore the clear dictates of the Constitution, and instead stretch its meaning to accommodate their own social or political preferences. This destroys the Constitution by ignoring the limits placed on the federal government.
The First Amendment was not intended to protect pornographers, freedom of religion does not require the elimination of all references to God in our public life, and Congress no more has the power to force individuals to buy health insurance from private companies than it has the power to force individuals to eat salmon for dinner. Respecting the Constitution and the people’s traditional understanding of its provisions is central to my work in Washington and is something that must be fought for each and every day.
