Today, Congressman Lamborn urged President Obama to veto the UNSC biased anti-Israel Resolution.
Congressman Lamborn issued the following statement:
"The United Nations Security Council anti-settlement resolution proposed by Egypt must be vetoed by the Obama Administration.
The resolution condemns Israel and makes illegitimate findings in a long sought after effort to delegitimize, stigmatize and condemn Israel. The findings would make settlement activity illegal as a matter of international law in violation of previous agreements. It also unjustly and wrongly calls all Israel settlement activity, including in East Jerusalem, illegal under international law - finding that they constitute a major obstacle to the achievement of peace.
This is a false narrative and always has been.
It finds that Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria and East Jerusalem have 'no legal validity and constitutes a flagrant violation under international law and a major obstacle to the achievement of the two-State solution and a just, lasting and comprehensive peace.'
It is exactly this type of reprehensible behavior at the United Nations that has disgusted so many. We should not allow the vitriol to seethe from the United Nations Security Council. The Palestinian Authority, and its allies, should be taken to task for wrongfully continuing to seek anti-Israel actions at the United Nations, and refusing to recognize the State of Israel.
On November 30th of this year, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said in his re-election speech that Palestinian Arabs will never agree to recognize Israel as a Jewish state or compromise on its peace demands. Abbas invited representatives from the terrorists groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad to attend the Fatah Congress. Both organizations have called openly for the destruction of Israel and routinely plan and carry out terror attacks within the Jewish state. These outrageous statements and actions should not be rewarded.
The people of the United States are against this resolution, they are against the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement, they recognize Israel’s right to exist, and the President of the United States should uphold his duty to act in the best interests of the United States and the will of the American people.
Therefore, I am calling on President Obama to instruct the US Ambassador to the United Nations to veto this anti-Israel and anti-settlement resolution today, and if it is delayed, every future date.
Should this resolution go forward and the Obama Administration fail to veto it, the United States Congress will be ready to remove funding from the Palestinian Authority, the United Nations, and support Israel’s right to annex Judea and Samaria as a result of the Palestinian Authority’s continuing to press unilaterally for the delegitimization of Israel and condemnations designed to place Israel in an unfair negotiating position."
