Dear Friend,

I was honored to receive the Medtech Innovation Congressional Award along with Senator Amy Klobuchar at the AdvaMed MedTech Conference for our work to suspend the medical device tax and make medical technologies more accessible to patients. The suspension of the tax is resulting in more jobs, more research and development, and more innovation in health care. I will continue to be a passionate advocate for med-tech Minnesota success stories and the life-improving and life-saving technologies that are helping patients.

I also enjoyed visiting a couple more schools -- thanks to Glen Lake Elementary and Mr. Herring's Orono High School class for having me!

Have a safe and enjoyable Halloween and please let me know whenever I can be of assistance to you or your family. Join the conversation online by visiting my website, Facebook page, Twitter, and Instagram, and please watch the latest Erik's Correspondence Corner video.

Sincerely,

Erik Paulsen
Member of Congress

Anti-Human Trafficking Round Table

We've made lots of progress passing new bipartisan laws to combat sex trafficking, but the only way we are going to solve this problem is by getting people engaged on the ground. This past week, I held a round table discussion with drivers from Uber, the ride-sharing smartphone app, and ECPAT-USA, a leading anti-trafficking organization.

We discussed our shared efforts to combat human trafficking and their new partnership to help ensure drivers are educated about what to look for and identify potential trafficking victims, or if a dangerous situation begins to unfold. It was fun to see the drivers of one of the most innovative companies in the world excited about how they could make a difference in saving lives and helping victims.

Transportation and Infrastructure

Big celebration for the grand opening of the final segment of Highway 610 to Interstate 94 in Maple Grove last week. I was on hand to see the last stages of the "Crosstown of the North," which will be a big boost to jobs and economic development in the area. There's no doubt it will have a positive impact on the community since more than 115,000 Minnesotans who use Highway 610 will have another option for travel in the area.

Bipartisan transportation initiatives like the Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act, which I supported, are important for keeping infrastructure up to date for easier commutes and more job opportunities. The new law authorizes transportation projects for a five-year period.

Constituent Services

Don't forget, my office is always available to provide you and your family with assistance. The most important part of my work is representing you, and that includes helping you navigate federal agencies and answer questions on a variety of issues, ranging from Social Security to veterans benefits. If you would like more information, please click here.

Here's an example of someone my office helped recently. A local food shelf reached out to me regarding an issue with the IRS after being hit with a punitive fine of several thousand dollars for accidentally missing a deadline for filing a form regarding their charity work. The size of the fine was so significant that it would have been "a terrible hardship" for the food shelf's operations and affected their ability to provide for those in need.

My office stepped in to help and we were able assist in reducing the fine and allowing the food shelf to continue assisting our neighbors in need through their charitable services.
