October 16, 2016

Dear Friend,

I hope everyone is having a great October. I recently went on The Parker Rosen Hour on AM 1280 to provide an update on several of my priorities, my bill to help startup companies, my anti-human trafficking initiatives, and addressing the rising costs of health care. You can listen to my interview here starting at the 15-minute mark.

As always, please let me know whenever I can be of assistance to you or your family. Join the conversation online by visiting my website, Facebook page, Twitter, and Instagram, and please watch the latest Erik's Correspondence Corner video.

Sincerely,

Erik Paulsen
Member of Congress

Survivors' Bill of Rights Act

Sexual assault is a serious offense with 288,000 victims every year. Last month, I voted in favor of the bipartisan Survivors' Bill of Rights Act, which was just signed into law by the President. The law protects the rights of sexual assault survivors and works to leave victims with the closure and protection they need and help them find justice. By providing greater access to legal remedies, we can ensure that evidence is processed in a timely manner to help build a victim's case.

Tax Reform

This week, I welcomed House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady to Minnesota, where he spoke to the Minnesota Economic Club about plans for tax reform. As a member of the Ways and Means Committee myself, I will continue working to fix a broken tax code. It's time to modernize the tax code and make it simpler, flatter, and fairer for hardworking taxpayers, families, and small businesses. It should be built for growth to incentivize new capital formation for job creators and boost wages and paychecks. You can check out the Blueprint for tax reform at waysandmeans.house.gov/taxreform and provide your feedback. The bottom line is we need a tax code that promotes work, savings, and investment.

Health Care Costs Spike

As you may know, health insurance premiums for many Minnesota families, individuals, and businesses are dramatically going up. In fact, hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans are seeing their premiums go up over 50 percent with some as high as 67 percent. Thousands more will lose their plans or access to their doctor through no fault of their own. Earlier this week, Governor Dayton stated that "the reality is the Affordable Care Act is no longer affordable."

I have authored several bipartisan bills to give you more tools to pay for your health care and drive lower costs. I believe people need more choices and more control over their health care, not more mandates from Washington bureaucrats under a one-size-fits-all approach. By working together, we can fix the current situation, increase competition, and make commonsense reforms that lower costs, improve quality, protect the doctor-patient relationship, and ensure access and choice for individuals, families, and employees.
