August 7, 2016

Dear Friend,

I hope everyone's August is off to a great start! We're in the final month of summer, but there is some good news ahead: the State Fair is just a few weeks away!

It's been great seeing so many of you at the Congress On Your Corner events I've hosted the past couple weeks in Coon Rapids, Eden Prairie, and Shorewood. Hearing from you helps me more effectively represent you, so thank you for all the advice, ideas, and thoughts.

As always, please let me know whenever I can be of assistance to you or your family. Join the conversation online by visiting my website, Facebook page, Twitter, Instagram, and please watch the latest Erik's Correspondence Corner video.

Sincerely,

Erik Paulsen
Member of Congress

Talking Trade in Minnesota

Last week, I met with 30 local small and medium businesses at a roundtable discussion about the benefits of trade for Minnesota. We talked about the advantages trade provides with more jobs and higher wages tied to export opportunities. The feedback about the prospects of future trade opportunities was insightful.

I will continue working on this bipartisan issue to explore how Minnesota can best benefit from improved and new trade relations. Currently, one in five American jobs is connected to trade, and 95 percent of the world's consumers live outside the United States. That's why it makes sense to sell American products and services overseas.

National Night Out

I had a great time participating in multiple National Night Out events in Maple Grove and Plymouth on Tuesday. It was wonderful to see so many neighbors turning out to show their appreciation and support for community-safety and neighborhood-watch programs. At my final stop there were over 400 people in one cul-de-sac! Below are some pics:

Expanding the ABLE Act

I recently met with disability advocates with The Arc Minnesota about the importance of disability funding and expanding ABLE Accounts. ABLE Accounts are tax-advantaged savings vehicles that help individuals with disabilities work, save, and live independently without losing access to disability benefits. Withdrawals from the account can be used for long-term disability expenses related to health care, education, housing, and transportation. By establishing these investment accounts, individuals and their families will be better able to save for future costs.

The ABLE Act, which created these accounts, was one of the first pieces of legislation I cosponsored when I was first elected. I look forward to continuing to support those with disabilities and their families and make sure that they have the resources they need.
