Dear Friend,

Summer is here which means warmer weather, time spent out on the lake, and the end of another school year. It also means summer vacation time. I really enjoy meeting Minnesota families when they visit Washington. So please make sure you contact my office if you are planning a trip to our nation's capital this summer.

This week we took time to honor and remember the 72nd anniversary of the Normandy Invasion, or D-Day, which swung the tide of World War II and changed the course of history. The bravery and determination of the allied troops who fought and sacrificied for freedom and liberty will never be forgotten.

On Wednesday, India Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a Joint Meeting of Congress. He stressed the importance of a stong U.S.-India relationship to help promote peace and freedom around the globe. It was also great to hear the prime minister discuss his committment to ensuring everyone in India has a chance to succeed. Joining me as my guest from Minnesota was Seann Nelipinath, the founder of the India Chamber of Commerce, USA.

Have a great week and be sure let me know whenever I can be of assistance to your or your family. Join the conversation online by visiting my website, Facebook page, Twitter, Instagram, and please watch the latest Erik's Correspondence Corner video.

Sincerely,

Erik Paulsen
Member of Congress

Improving Healthcare for our Seniors

For too many seniors the healthcare system can be overly complicated, burdensome, and not tailored to meet their unique needs. On Wednesday, I spoke during a Ways and Means Committee hearing about bipartisan legislation that I have introduced to improve healthcare for seniors. By working together and advancing these reforms we can improve services for our seniors and make Medicare safe and secure.

The Accelerating Innovation in Medicine (AIM) Act would increase patient access to new FDA approved medical devices and procedures and speed up the collection of data needed for Medicare coverage decisions. I also spoke about the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act, which would provide patients with access to FDA approved obesity drugs under Medicare Part D. You can watch my testimony here.

Our Future Leaders

Each year I have the privilege of nominating and appointing young men and women for acceptance into our nation's service academies (Air Force, West Point, Navy, and Merchant Marine). This week, I hosted a reception for the thirteen inspiring future leaders who accepted their appointment, and their families, as they prepare to embark on a new journey. I am proud to say that Minnesota will be well-represented at all four of our nation's service academies next fall.

The Fight to End Trafficking

On Monday, I joined Cindy McCain and other advocates at the Nobel Peace Prize Forum in Bloomington to discuss global efforts to combat human trafficking. As a long-time advocate to end sex trafficking, it was a great opportunity to learn what leaders around the world are doing to put an end to this modern day slavery. I also provided an update on the initiatives and bipartisan new laws I have authored, including the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act, that is helping victims. I will continue to be a voice for these young children and work across the aisle to put an end to trafficking. You can watch my remarks here.
