Internship Information

Dear Students:

Thank you for your interest in my internship program. Internships are a long-standing tradition on Capitol Hill and interns provide a valuable service to Senators, their staff and the citizens of their state.  An internship in Washington, D.C. provides students with many practical and educational opportunities to participate in the daily operation of a Senate office and to observe first-hand how the legislative process works.

Job Duties

Interns are responsible for a wide range of jobs in my office.  They assist my staff with administrative tasks such as sorting mail, making copies, running errands as well as constituent services – a large part of which are leading Capitol tours.  Interns also assist the media department with research, proofreading and various projects as needed.  Finally, interns will have several opportunities to learn the legislative process by writing policy or hearing summaries, conducting research for legislative aides, observing floor proceedings, and attending committee hearings and lectures.

Eligibility

Priority is given to students from Wyoming, or those studying in Wyoming, who have achieved at least sophomore status at an accredited university or college. In addition, students must have achieved a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher. Students in all areas of study are welcome to apply.

Housing and stipend

Housing is not provided, however the intern coordinator will supply information on a variety of housing options. In addition, a stipend of $1,600 per month is paid to help defray the costs of living in Washington, D.C.

Credit

Many departments offer college credit for educational internships. Enzi interns are encouraged to pursue this opportunity within their program of study. They are typically eligible for 3 to 15 college credits during their internship.
