U.S. Senator Mike Enzi asked advocates of Obamacare to worry less about protecting the law itself and more about eliminating the failings of the law that are harming millions of Americans.

This week Enzi introduced a resolution that would provide for the repeal of Obamacare.  In this second day of debate on the resolution Enzi said proponents of Obamacare are blind to the fact that it makes health care unaffordable for millions.

“I think that is a troubling blind spot about this law that he (President Obama) and many of my Democratic colleagues share. Millions are facing impossibly high health insurance premiums for plans they may not even want,” Enzi said. “These casualties of Obamacare…are written off as ‘growing pains’ by the authors of the law.”

Enzi pointed out that the law’s authors passed part of Obamacare through the budget reconciliation process. The law has never been popular. A majority of Americans want to see Obamacare change or completely replaced. There has never been a majority of Americans who support the law in large part because it has resulted in less choice and higher prices.

“After Congress passes this repeal resolution it can then move forward on reconciliation legislation that will provide for the repeal of Obamacare and pave the way for real health care reforms,” Enzi said.

Enzi refuted Obamacare proponents who are accusing him and others of wanting to throw people off their current health care plans. Enzi said the goal is to improve the system so more people can get better health care, not just coverage. He hopes that improving the system is something that members from both parties can work on together, but said devotion to a failed system will not serve that end.
