U.S. Capitol Building—Visiting the U.S. Capitol building is a highlight of any visit to Washington, DC. Tours begin in the Capitol Visitors’ Center, where guests view a video introducing them to the Capitol. The tour includes a visit to Statuary Hall, the Old Supreme Court, and the Rotunda. Public tours are also available from 8:30 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. Monday through Saturday, except certain holidays. For more information, visit www.visitthecapitol.gov. (Please note the Capitol Rotunda will be temporarily closed for maintenance from July 25, 2015-September 8, 2015)
White House —The White House offers a limited number of tours to guests who request them through congressional offices. Tours are self-guided and are scheduled between 7:30 a.m. and late morning or early afternoon, three days a week. The tour includes a visit to the Green Room, the Gold Room, the Red Room, and the State Dining Room. Note: The tour does NOT include a visit to the West Wing or Oval Office. Tours must be requested at least 30 days in advance, and full names, dates of birth, and Social Security or passport numbers are required before the tour can be requested. Library of Congress—As the nation’s library, the Library of Congress shares resources with the American people who, through their elected representation in Congress, have created the world’s largest repository of knowledge. Tours of the historic Thomas Jefferson building are led by docents and provide information about the art and architecture of the building and the history of the library. Public tours are also available at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday (no 3:30 tours on Saturdays). The Pentagon—Tours of our nation’s military headquarters are available for reservation through congressional offices. The tour, which lasts approximately an hour, provides visitors with an overview of the Department of Defense and visits a number of displays highlighting our nation’s military history. Tours are available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, except federal holidays. The Pentagon requires security information, including full name, date of birth, and city, state, and country where you were born. Bureau of Engraving and Printing—Visitors watch millions of dollars being printed as they learn about how our currency is produced. Depending on availability, reserved tours are available. In addition, public tours are available on a first-come, first-served basis with same-day timed tickets distributed at 8:00 a.m. For more information, please visit http://www.moneyfactory.gov/tours.html.
Supreme Court—The Supreme Court is the highest tribunal in the nation for all cases and controversies arising under the Constitution or laws of the United States. Reserved congressional tours of this building are available for groups of six or less. The tour begins in the Courtroom and highlights some of the most fascinating cases and people in the history of American justice. The building is also open to the public, and 30 minute public lectures are available in the Courtroom every hour on the half-hour from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on days that the Court is not sitting. Kennedy Center—The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is the National Cultural Center, as well as a “living memorial” to President John F. Kennedy. If you are part of the afternoon tour, you will be able to enjoy the free 6:00 p.m. performance at the Millennium Stage. Walk-in public tours are also available, and tours go out every 10 minutes. To purchase tickets for a performance or for more information, please visit www.kennedy-center.org.
Please request your tour dates at least 60 days in advance for best tour opportunities. In order to increase your probability of acquiring White House Tickets, please make requests 6 months in advance. These tickets are very popular and security reasons require significant advance notice. This notice is especially important if you are planning on touring the White House during peak tourism times which include: March through September and during December.
