Are you worried about identity theft? It can happen to anyone. In fact, last tax season, my personal information was stolen. In 2014, a return was filed in my name and a refund was requested. The problem was it was not my return.
Last tax season, someone used my stolen personal information and filed a fraudulent tax return in my name, claiming a refund. I have heard similar stories from Americans who were also victims of identity theft. To curb this growing threat, I introduced the Stolen Identity Refund Fraud Prevention Act of 2015, and core components of this bill were signed into law at the end of last year.
