Press Release

Washington, D.C.—Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) joined more than 170 of her Democratic colleagues to cosponsor the Protecting Our Democracy Act to establish an independent commission to investigate Russian interference into the 2016 election.

“The threat to American democracy posed by Russian interference into the 2016 election warrants a bipartisan and independent investigation,” said Congresswoman Adams

“This week, I joined more than 170 of my colleagues to cosponsor legislation that will establish a commission to lead this inquiry. The American people deserve a thorough analysis of any attempt to undermine our democracy and erode trust in American institutions. This isn’t a Republican versus Democrat issue- we must come together to protect American democracy.“

The Protecting Our Democracy Act, originally introduced last month in the 114th Congress, would establish a body similar to the 9/11 Commission and has broad support from former senior defense and intelligence officials.  Every member of House Democratic leadership and the ranking member of each committee also cosponsored the bill.
