Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity to Mark Up Lead-Safe Housing for Kids Act and Homes for Heroes Act

Washington, DC –  Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), chairwoman of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity, today announced that the subcommittee will meet to mark up H.R. 3397, the Lead-Safe Housing for Kids Act of 2007, and H.R. 3329, the Homes for Heroes Act of 2007, on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at 2:00 p.m.

The Lead-Safe Housing for Kids Act, introduced by Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), would protect young children from detrimental health effects caused by exposure to lead sources, particularly lead-based paint, in their homes by requiring the Department of Housing and Urban Development to update its regulations for blood lead levels requiring intervention.

The Homes for Heroes Act, introduced by Reps. Al Green (D-TX) and Michael Michaud (D-ME), would improve and expand housing assistance for America’s veterans and their families, especially those with very low incomes.
