Dear 7th District Constituent,

July is one of the busiest months in Washington. It has been less than two weeks and Congress has made
substantial progress on a number of major legislations. We expect to have more fruitful conversation
for thenext two weeks before August recess.

This week in Washington…

The Majority passed the delayed reform of H.R. 5 - Elementary and Secondary Education Act with a small
margin 218-213. I stood with many of my democratic colleagues that we should reform the system but not
to defund valuable programs that increase accountability and access to education of many young children.
I suspect that we then go into a conference with the Senate version of the bill and I hope we will achieve a
better result than what we have in the original House passed bill.

Congress also passed a landmark legislation on health care, the H.R. 621st Century Cures Act in a
bipartisan manner with 344-77.

I mentioned the debate on Highway Funding the last time, and as we are approaching the end of July, the
House recently passed a short-term stopgap to extend the funding to the end of December 2015.

Furthermore, I am proud to inform you that I recently introduced a legislation, H.R. 3005 - Responsible
Fatherhood
to promote upward mobility of parents, in particular of fathers. As studies show myraid of
positive effects of a healthy familiy which is related to the success of a child, I think it is important that we
start to invest more in assisting young families. My bill aims at helping them in employment, trainings, education,
so that they can contribute to the well-being of the family.

"Criminal Justice reform is a national agenda”

"I gave a brief remarks at National Action
Network in support of their mission to fight
for justice, civil rights, and equality."

This week, prior to his trip to Oklahoma City, where he visited
the Federal Correctional Institution in El Reno, he gave a
speech at the National Association for the Advancement of
Colored People (NAACP). His speech called out for the
improvement in our justice system and he recognized the
need for long-overdue reforms. I am with him and I am hopeful
that now that the issue has received national attention, Congress
can pass some legislations to address the reforms this year.
I have friends on both sides of the aisle who are in favor of the
reforms. On legislation, I see the reauthorization of the Second
Chance Act, as one crucial contribution to assist local enforcement
authorities as well as the communities on successful reentry. If you
have direct experience participating or working under this scheme,
please feel free to share your story with me.
