Service Academies

One of my roles as a member of Congress is nominating young men and women to the U.S. Service Academies.

It is an honor to nominate driven young people from the 4th Congressional District to the service academies for the U.S. Naval Academies, West Point, U.S. Air Force, and Merchant Marines. For applicants to be considered, a nomination is required.   

The Service Academies not only provide military training, but also 4 year-academic degrees. Upon graduation, students are commissioned as officers. Merchant Marine graduates have the option to be commissioned in all branches of the Armed Services or to serve in the Reserve Armed Forces while employed as a civilian in a maritime or intermodal transportation industry.

I receive many applications for nomination, and am only able to nominate a small number of them. Applicants must demonstrate strong academic performance, leadership skills, community involvement and a desire to work hard and serve our country.
