Health Care
Rep. Grijalva supports the Affordable Care Act, which has helped millions of Americans get health insurance, including hundreds of thousands of Arizonians. He is dedicated to helping Arizonians access plans on the public health exchange and helping small businesses offer coverage to their workers.
Roughly 205,000 Arizonians secured or re-enrolled in coverage through the Affordable Care Act by February 2015. Nearly half of those enrollments were new consumers who didn’t have marketplace coverage before November 2014. Thanks to Arizona’s 2013 Medicaid expansion an additional 295,000 Arizona residents now have coverage through Medicaid.
More than half of Arizonians who enrolled last year had the option to purchase health insurance for $100 or less each month, while the average tax credit in our state is $155 each month. In the exchange’s first year, three out of four Arizonians selected a plan with financial assistance.
A major challenge across the nation has been low enrollment rates for Latinos. Before the first open enrollment period more than 40 percent of our nation’s Latinos were uninsured. Since the passage of the ACA 4.2 million Latino Americans gained health coverage.
