There are still millions of American families and businesses struggling to regain their economic footing. Congress must pursue innovative strategies to create jobs, expand opportunity, and grow our economy. We must build ladders of opportunity and tear down barriers for all Americans who are willing to work hard and take responsibility so that everyone can achieve the American Dream.

A sustainable and successful economic recovery rests on supporting new and small businesses, reforming our bloated tax code, providing every American with a high-quality education, and restoring fiscal discipline to the federal budget. Only by taking these steps can we create jobs and continue as the most dynamic economy in the world.

Economic Inequality

Though our economy has come a long way since the Great Recession struck in 2008, there are millions of families across the country who still feel left out of the recovery. Wages for middle- and working-class folks have barely budged over the last decade while profits for the wealthiest Americans have soared. The reasons behind the rising levels of economic inequality are complex, but the lack of paid sick and family leave and the decline of labor unions in this country are two proven causes. Jared is fighting to ensure that every American has access to the basic workplace protections and fair wages that they need to both provide for their family and pursue a career.

Growing Jobs and Small Businesses

Small businesses form the foundation of our economy. During the recovery, entrepreneurs have created two out of every three new jobs. Keeping this engine of job creation running means ensuring access to affordable capital so that one person’s good idea can become America’s next great business and employer.

Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Jared launched the bipartisan House Caucus on Innovation and Entrepreneurship to promote legislation that will help new and small businesses grow and create jobs to put America back to work. The Caucus is educating Congress on the importance of innovation and the prominent role start-up companies play in job creation. Jared is the co-founder of Startup Day Across America, a day each year in which lawmakers throughout the country visit with local startups and entrepreneurs to learn about the challenges they face and how public policy can address those challenges.

Tax Reform

The success of businesses and workers depends on fundamentally reforming the tax code—which currently undermines competitiveness and hurts job creation—by limiting deduction and eliminating special interest loopholes so we can reduce tax rates. We need a simple and fair tax code that will ensure predictability for businesses, individuals and our federal budget. Our tax system should encourage investments in innovation and support start-ups and small business investment.

Federal Deficit

Reducing the deficit requires a balanced, bipartisan approach that includes reductions in spending, reforms of entitlements, and new revenues. We also need a constitutional amendment similar to Colorado’s that will restrain Congress from busting the budget.
