About the Congressional Art Competition

The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.

The 2014 Congressional Art Competition showcased the talents of 80 high school students who reside in the 3rd Congressional District. Rep. Erik Paulsen (MN-03) awarded the grand prize in this year’s Third District Congressional Art Competition to Mound Westonka High School senior Carly Koch for her piece “The Great Northern Loon.” Carly’s piece will be hung in the Cannon Tunnel of the United States Capitol for one year.
