Veterans & Military Families

As a member of a military family, Kyrsten knows that taking care of our active duty military and veterans is one of the most important obligations we have as Americans. In Congress, she is holding the VA accountable and fighting for changes that help veterans get the health care and benefits they need and deserve.

Serving Arizona Veterans

Kyrsten’s office holds Veteran Resource Clinics in every part of the Valley to give veterans the chance to file VA claims, access their benefits and learn about the resources available to them through the non-profit community. This year, the clinics now include a Job Fair. Kyrsten’s team has served over 1,000 veterans so far and continues to hold these events every several months. The district office's social work team helps valley veterans every day, from resolving claims to accessing benefits to addressing their housing, employment and educational needs.

Holding the VA Accountable

In Washington, Kyrsten has led the charge to reform the VA by being an original co-sponsor of the VA Accountability Act that passed the House this year. It should not be impossible to fire VA leaders who lie, cheat, or deny health care to our veterans.  Kyrsten supported the VA Choice Act and our office works with the VA and private providers to implement the program every day. Veterans should not have to wait for care, and if the VA cannot provide that care directly, veterans can now receive timely care in the community.

Improving VA Mental Health Care

Kyrsten worked with the family of Sgt. Daniel Somers, a veteran from our district who took his own life, to introduce the Sgt. Daniel Somers Classified Veterans Access to Care and ensure veterans who serve in a classified capacity can get private counseling from the VA. The bill passed House in June 2016.

Our team of social workers helps veterans and their families every day. If you are a veteran and need help, please call 602-956-2285.
