National Security
Kyrsten’s first priority is the security of Arizona families. That’s why she works every day to combat the threats we face from terrorism, and fight for those who fight for us - our veterans and military families. Kyrsten's work includes holding the VA accountable and helping deliver the health care and benefits our men and women in uniform have earned.
The United States must destroy terrorists abroad, stop them from entering our country, and end radicalization in our communities. We need a smart, strong and coordinated strategy to defeat the terrorist threat and keep America safe. That's why Kyrsten co-introduced and voted for bills that require the Administration to develop a comprehensive strategy to eliminate the Islamic State and other terrorist organizations, and support federal, state and local law enforcement.
Kyrsten will continue working with both Republicans and Democrats until every American family feels safe both here at home and while traveling abroad.
Task Force to Investigate Terrorism Financing
The Islamic State is a legitimate, immediate threat to the United States. To keep our country safe, we must be one step ahead of IS, cutting off their funding and stopping their efforts. This is why Kyrsten is a member of the House Financial Services Committee Task Force to Investigate Terrorism Financing. She is committed to working with her colleagues on both sides of the aisle to get money out of the hands of terrorists and find solutions that protect America’s safety and security.
National Strategy for Combating Terrorist, Underground, and Other Illicit Financing Act
Recently, the House of Representatives unanimously passed bipartisan legislation Kyrsten introduced with Republican Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick to discover and destroy financial schemes that fund foreign terrorist organizations. The National Strategy for Combating Terrorist, Underground, and Other Illicit Financing Act directs the Secretary of the Treasury, in coordination with other federal agencies, to establish a comprehensive strategy to combat the financing of terrorism and related forms of illicit finance.
Cutting off Oil Revenues
Kyrsten offered an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to direct the Administration to pursue efforts that would shut down the Islamic State’s oil revenues and report on resources needed for these efforts. Her amendment was accepted and signed into law as part of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2016 on November 25, 2015. Kyrsten will continue to work with her colleagues on both sides of the aisle to keep money out of terrorists’ hands and build on our progress to strengthen America’s security.
Funding Our National Security Needs
Kyrsten consistently votes for funding for our troops and national security. She knows we must responsibly fund our military to ensure our men and women in uniform have the tools they need to protect our national security. Hardworking Arizona families expect Congress to put partisanship aside and get things done to support our troops and veterans, and keep our country safe. Kyrsten will continue to support commonsense, bipartisan legislation that provides needed increases in military funding and servicemember pay each year.
